PRESS RELEASE:

ARCANGELO

born 1956 in Avellino,Italy
lives and works in Milano and S. Nazzaro/Benevento, Italy

Arcangelo, Opere 1983 - 2002, Perugia 2003.

We presented the main cycles of his artistic production (from "Terra mia" to "Sanniti"), which allows an entire survey on his impressive oeuvre, composed of paintings, installations and sculptures.

In the current show we present new paintings from the series of the Sanniti, which Arcangelo started to work on in 2001.

Sanniti are the people who lived in ancient roman times in the South of Italy, the native country of the artist.

For Arcangelo this mythic world is an inexhaustible reservoir of suggestions and evocations. Associations to the famous cave paintings come up and remenber the origins of civilization. Inspired by the archaic culture of the Sanniti he creates an own language of signs and symbols ("feticci").
The paintings strike by their expressive manner mixed up with fragile sketches.

With the new cycle he turns more into colour, red and blue are predominant.

The price margin for the paintings of the exhibition is between 3.250 and 35.500 EUR

Dr. Annelie Pohlen, Kunstverein Bonn, will will introduce the new monographic book on the artist:
